The 116660 model, in particular, made its debut in 2008 as the successor to the iconic Sea-Dweller 16600, but with a dramatic difference. It doubled the previous model's water resistance and introduced the "Deepsea" nomenclature, marking a significant chapter in Rolex's legacy of underwater exploration watches.
The Rolex Sea-Dweller 116660 is powered by the Caliber 3135, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Known for its precision, reliability, and resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, the 3135 is a certified Swiss chronometer. Its architecture, like all Rolex Perpetual movements, makes it singularly reliable. One of the standout features of this model is the helium escape valve, a crucial tool for deep-sea explorers. As divers ascend after deep saturation dives, the helium escape valve allows helium trapped inside the watch to be released without compromising the integrity of the timepiece. This feature sets the Sea-Dweller apart and underpins its status as a watch designed for the deepest depths.
