Description
The Zenith El Primero is widely celebrated as the world's first integrated automatic chronograph movement. Launched in 1969, it broke new ground by combining self-winding convenience with a high-frequency escapement, a design choice that remains its signature today.
Technical Mastery
The El Primero's defining characteristic is its frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (vph) or 5Hz. This high beat rate allows the chronograph to measure elapsed time with 1/10th of a second precision, providing a noticeably smoother sweep of the seconds hand compared to standard 4Hz movements.
