Description
The Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph reference 5970 is regarded by many as the quintessential example of a complex timepiece from the historic Geneva manufacturer. It marked the last perpetual calendar chronograph reference from Patek Philippe to feature a movement based on Lemania, prior to its replacement in 2011 by the in-house CH 29-535 PS caliber found in the subsequent reference 5270.
In spite of the significant acclaim that the reference 5970 has garnered, it holds the distinction of having the briefest existence of any perpetual calendar chronograph reference within Patek Philippe’s extensive history of crafting this complication. The initial pieces were introduced to the market in 2004, with the last examples reaching retailers by 2011 at the latest. Naturally, as is the case with any Patek Philippe reference, specific combinations of case metals and dial colors were only offered for a limited segment of the reference’s overall production period.
