Description

The innovative material used in the case flanks originally appeared in the Freak X Magma. There, it was a mix of carbon fibre and red, marbled epoxy resin. Here, the mix is with green epoxy resin.

The Ulysse Nardin Freak X is a wearable and more accessible version of the original Freak, featuring a traditional crown and automatic winding, a light and comfortable 43mm case, and a unique time-telling carousel movement. Reviewers praise its lightweight, modern design, in-house silicon movement with a 90-hour power reserve, and overall wearability, though its 30m water resistance is lower than some watches and it lacks the exotic crownless features of previous models.

The movement featured in the Freak X, known as the UN-230, is intricately wound through the crown and employs the efficient "Magic Lever" system, which translates movement in either direction directly to the mainspring. The Magic Lever is a Seiko innovation that was initially introduced in 1959 with the caliber 55 series. Ulysse Nardin has developed their own version, which includes a slightly modified design while maintaining the same operational principle. One point of criticism regarding the system utilized here is the noise it produces during typical arm and wrist movements. Although it is not a particularly pleasant sound and is quite noticeable, it does not significantly detract from the overall experience of the watch.
